Trinity Music Ministry

As Episcopalians we have inherited the broadest collection of music in Christianity.  Here at Trinity you will only find the Hymnal 1982 in the pews, but our service bulletin nearly always contains music drawn from other Supplemental Sources offered by the Episcopal Church as well as other sources.  In welcoming all to the celebration, we also welcome all styles and expressions that lead us to a deeper worship experience.  On any given Sunday we may sing a traditional hymn, plainchant from the fifth century, gospel piece, Taizé refrain, or contemporary song (to name a few possibilities).  Regardless of the style or period from which our music is drawn, we strive to provide music of respect and dignity.  Our music choices for the Sunday are based from the Lectionary Readings appointed for the day as well as the Liturgical Season.

Trinity Church has a strong reputation for congregational singing.  If you are visiting Trinity we invite you to join in singing the hymns and service music.  Henry Van Dyke said, "The woods be very silent if no birds sang there except for those that sang best."  Every voice is needed to help us make a joyful noise.

During the Summer months our choirs do take a rest, but that does not mean our music ceases.  This past summer we hosted the Bull Run Troubadours (a barber shop group who meets regularly in our basement).  We also celebrated the diversity of music through Gospel Sunday (where all the music will be drawn from the Gospel style) and Christmas in July (that's right "The snow lay all around" when its 90 degrees outside).  New this year in the summer music program was Showtune Sunday (where all the music will be drawn from Broadway Shows).

Above you will find links to pages containing information about the choirs at Trinity Church.  The choirs are all strong communities within the larger family of Trinity Church.  These are not the only ways to offer your musical talents at Trinity.  Instrumentalists regularly are included in our services.  If you have a talent that you would like to share with God and the congregation, you are invited to talk to Kevin Feltmann, our Director of Music, who would be more than happy to find a way for you to become involved.  Regardless of your background or skill level, if you are willing to invest the time and dedication that such a ministry requires, there is a place for you in the music program at Trinity Church.
